Domain settings: renewal, transfer lock, and WHOIS privacy

What each domain setting does and how to keep a domain from expiring.

Last reviewed 25 July 2026

Each domain page has three settings, all of which take effect at the registrar.

Auto-renew
Renews the domain automatically before it expires
Registrar lock
Blocks unauthorised transfers away from us
WHOIS privacy
Hides your contact details from public WHOIS

Leave auto-renew on unless you intend to give the domain up. An expired domain stops resolving — taking any website or email on it offline — and after the grace period it can be registered by someone else.

Your portal flags domains approaching expiry, and the Renewals page lists everything due soon so nothing slips. Turn registrar lock off only while you're deliberately transferring a domain away.

Still stuck?

Open a ticket and a senior engineer will pick it up — usually the same business day.
